Anyone have any thoughts on how hard it would be to replace the current coupon contrib with this one from the oscommerce site? http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/4269

The main reason I ask is that the current exclusions option in 6.3.3 doesn't work 100% right and I wanted to try that contrib to see if it might.... I just don't know if I would be wasting hours or days trying it...

Thanks!

Mike

Wouldn't bother - better off upgrading from 6.3.x. to 6.4.2 or 6.5 (better code all-round, not just for coupons.)

Bummer... with our product base, not having salemaker is the killer for us. So either we stay with 6.3.3, wait to see if it ever comes back or see about another cart (I hate that last option since with all of our mods it makes keeping the site up to date pretty easy --> we can get a feed from our main wholesalers - change quantities, update prices, etc.)

Thanks for the feedback.

Have you looked at Specials by Category? You're using a free version so not a lot to lose setting up a 6.5 CE cart.

I have looked at it but it has been a while. I thought I remembered that is wasn't on CE... I don't exactly know but I am a bit afraid of trying the new version with all of our mods.

If I have to move on (either to upgrade with CRE or to find another cart) I guess I will have a lot of work either way so I just might give it a shot and try it. But at this time our site is oh-so-close to working perfectly (minus the coupon issue) and I would love to have it fixed and keep using CRE.
But of course I am still working hard on getting better searching engine ranking but I don't count that as a knock of CRE since some OSC contribs work with CRE without much adaptation....

At one time I loved CRE but I think they went a different direction and sort of lost their momentum and possible large market share (P.S. I do also have a 6.4.x B2B license - just don't use it).

Good point - Specials by Category isn't in CE ... didn't realise Salemaker was either.

Basically the longer you leave upgrades the bigger the jump when you do decide to or your hosting company decides to upgrade it's php/linux/mysql/apache version and your cart becomes unusable. It also makes it harder to keep up with the times - eg using a 3 page checkout, nested table templates and unsecure pages for transmitting personal data should be gone by now.

At the moment more and more hosts are switching to php 5.3, which will take some recoding of your current 6.3.x site to stop the deprecated errors for a start. Sure you can keep changing hosts but the underlying message is - upgrading can reduce the chances of one day finding your customer data has been vacuumed and site redirects to some undesirable alternative (if you're lucky you'll know about it.)

Simon good points.
3 Page checkout and Unsecure pages are both gone on our version.
And I do hope I am aware of the problems with 6.3.3 that I think I have updated for all php 5.3 issues. I hope - but if not I also hope that we will notice and fix them when they occur. Then again I might just be asking questions about that if/when it occurs. (or even maybe upgraded by then - really don't know at this time as I don't know what direction we are going to go with this or another cart software)
Thank you again,
Mike
