I don't know about you but I don't have time to search the forum for a maybe answer to a problem that should not occur in the first place.

I sell digital products, thousands of them! all virtual, all downloadable, some premium, some free.

I don't need to charge shipping so all I need to do is list the product, decide whether it is free or paid, list it, upload file to download folder and move on to the next one.

How difficult should that be?

Ruddy impossible so far! If I wanted to sell tangable products, and I do I would use Zencart, and I do!
Zencart however has the same problem that CRE has, no provision built in for digital downloads that is simple and non-geek orientated.

I have been involved with computers since most of you were born, possibly, but the trials and tribulations of Basic pale into insignificance compared to the challenge of listing a simple digital download, free or paid in this wonderful sales cart that you call CRE loaded.

Don't get me wrong, you are not alone in this deficiency but you should be really ashamed that you are no better than the others in this respect!

For Heavens sake PLEASE tell me how I can do what I need to list my products, and build something into the download that enables others to do the same. I know from this forum and Zencart forum and other forums that this is a common problem so I am seriously considering forming a DPDA [Digital Product Download Anonymous] to comfort and advise the traumatised webmasters that you all create!!

DO NOT advise me to buy the manual, I do not need to buy the manual to do something that I should be able to do without problems, I have installed, configured and deleted SOOO many CMS systems over the past six months, including Drupal, Mambo and Joomla, Os-Commerce, Zencart and now maybe you that there is nothing that You could say to convince me that I have not just been wasting my time and that I might just as well go commit Hari-Kari, [dream on!].

I do not do this as a part time enterprise or a hobby, this is my only source of income and I am not earning money by not being able to list my many and expensive [to me as I cannot sell them] products.

Would any kindred spirit like to assist me here? In plain English!

I am a newb...that said, I am not a completed idiot either. I have done everything I can imagine to make downloads work and I cant! This forum doesn't help either or at least I haven't found any "real" help.

Before we start trying to upsale, yes I have looked for the File Distribution Management System product on creloaded.com, but all I could find was a downloadable "how to" manual and I don't want to purchase something I feel should be part of the release..I mean come on!

Anyone ?

Have you had any luck? I'm in the same boat except it will allow free downloads but not paid ones? Something odd seems to be going on here. Its a bit annoying to find that the only function of creloaded I really want to use (Digital distribution) seems to be broken by default.

Guys, instructions for using the downloadable product features in the attribute system are in the FAQ.

If you have specific questions about those instructions I'll be happy to respond to them. The reason FDMS comes at added cost is that it should be MUCH more convenient, and provides features which support free downloads which don't skew your order figures. TANSTAAFL.

How do I make a download link appear in the automated email that is sent out when an "Allow Download" Status is set for a customer?

FDMS is so much easier to use, and you can see the catalog side being used on creloaded. A demo site of its use in admin would be very useful so you could see how easy it is as it is just a matter of linking a product with a download.

A lot of extra hard work went into FDMS which is why it deserves the extra price tag. The best thing about it is it takes very little effort to install.

Please note I am not trying to upsell or anything like that I don't get a penny anyway but have had time testing it so no its benefit and believe me it is designed for the exact job you are reffering to.

personally, I have been involved to use your term in computing since the early eighties, and I think that for someone with your experience, and considering the existance of the module specifically for this that this is reallya non-issue. if you would like some assistance setting up your system to be able to do this please feel free to email me.

best regards,

Fin

The Downloads Controller is really nothing more than an osCommerce contrib ported for CRE. I would recommend the File Distribution Management System (FDMS) which was totally designed and created by CRE Loaded for better management of downloadable products.
