I realize shipping is a very difficult module overall because of the possibilities. But I have a situation that makes me think that some more attention needs to happen in this area. I want to make one category or product(s) shipping free and another product that is 40 lbs for example not free but because of the weight issue of the cart, if the 40 lb item is selected then every other item that is added to cart gets additional shipping costs. So why not add a shipping option to the products page so that when we a adding a new product to the store we can specify a flat ship charge or an existing shipping option just for that item. Or perhaps just a no shipping tick box?

There are different shipping options that a user can chek during chekout.

So if we apply to a product but do not want it for all shipping option to take same rule then we are in for a problem.

So shipping modules are left to apply logic and conclude what to do with each product.

In short You need to add flags to products and let the shipping module be modified whether to use those flags or not.
