I am using the 6.3.3 CE version and I have a category that is restricted by a login for that category. But I just found those products can be found using the search function... Not good. Is there a way to restrict the search from not searching that category?

Thank you,

Mike

Does the 6.3 category restriction work with other modules (eg new, specials, featured etc) ... ? So even if you hid the category from search, would eg a new product added to the category appear in 'new products' anyway?

I don't know that answer... I'll have to check. The reason I don't know is that most of the products that are going into that category are old, need to get rid of items so they don't show in the new products, I'll have to check the rest.

I'm pretty sure they still will show in other modules ... my point was that perhaps it would be easier to make the products 'distinct' from the rest by modifying eg the model number and then putting a conditional in the search query. The issue of products appearing in other modules could be handled by same query conditional in product_listing(_col).php which should get most of the modules, although infoboxes (eg bestsellers) may be an exception.

I found that if a product has 0 quantity, it will not show up in search results.

Just means you would need to change store settings to allow checkout without checking stock.

Probably more to do with the product's status than quantity - if the product is inactive it won't show up in search results.
