I just noticed something.... When an order is placed it doesn't show the user the order number on the order success page....

The URL does have it. i.e. https://www.store.com/checkout_success. ... er_id=3123

Why doesn't the text of the page also show the order #? And could someone tell me how to add it?

Well, you've got the 'Print Invoice' button there which shows the order number, plus the email confimration has been sent to the customer now so it'll be on that too.

If you wanted to add it to that screen as well, just add this to checkout_success.tpl.php:
