An add on to personalised products in 6.2.

So each individual product to be added to the cart can be personalised BUT if the user wants to by more than 1 personalised item of the same id what happens is that the quantity of the product is increased to 2 and the personalisation becomes that of the last entered....so

my question is, is there an in-built way to turn off the increase quantity if same product_id or what lines in add_cart() need to be altered to effect the same?

Is this an osCommerce add-on - does it have forum support?
Presumably you gonna want to charge for 2 items anyway, whether they each have their own personalisation or not, so switching off the qty added isn't going to help. What's the problem using attributes for both?

The problem is multiples of the same item each with a different personalisation.
Personalisation is a textual attribute of the item.
Currently if you add another instance of the same item it increases the quantity of that item in the cart, what I want it to do is add the item again as a new row in the customer basket because the personalisation is different .

Item 1: product_id=1: Red Mug (Janet) Qty 1
Item 2: product_id=1: Red Mug (John) Qty 1

What currently happens is

Item 1: product_id=1: Red Mug (John) Qty 2

I have tried altering the add_cart() method in classes/shopping_cart.php where it checks if the product_id already exists in the cart session but to no avail.

It isnt an OSCommerce add on by the way, Cre-Loaded customisation would be a better description unless there is an inbuilt method to do as above or if the use of textual attribute personalisation requiring unique cart rows is seen as being an add on requirement

Suppose it depends on the number of orders that require this - I'd add a textarea and ask customers to clarify their request, which is basically what you'd do anyway if it was being sold over the counter or MOTO. I think most people would figure out that if they bought two of the same they'd need to explain what they wanted.

IMO it seems a bit OTT to modify the cart functions to accommodate what's really just a request to eg name an item differently, when it's the same product.

Damn good idea, sometimes I really dont see the simple solution so there is now a textarea and the user is invited to enter all the names required and change the quantity before hitting add to cart and if the names dont match the quantity they only get the quantity ordered with names in order of entry.... brilliantly simple Cheers
