Hi I'm new here and am wondering if anybody has seen my problem with the coupon codes in

CRE Loaded Professional B2B v6.3.2 which is hosted on a VPS

Our first site is fairly new and we have not used the coupon codes before
but with our first tests they seemed to work just fine.

but we have now come across situations where they do not work properly

It seems that if we use a coupon code on a product that has attributes chosen from the drop down list, then when entered the error message come up saying the coupon code is not available etc. BUT if you click on continue to next page the coupon code has been entered correctly. (but I doubt whether most potential client would click to next page) but coupon admin doesn't show the coupon as being used.

If we use it on a products that hasn't any attributes then the coupons work as expected

has anyone had this problem
Thanks in advance
Ian

Hi Ian

Can you confirm the actual error message - is it: 'This coupon is not available yet' ?
Is the coupon setup correctly in the admin >> coupon area re start date?

Simon

Hi simon thanks for your reply

I cannot confirm what the error message said originally in English, as I don't remember, as we translated this version of CRE loaded to Spanish.
but it is the error message you would get if you used a coupon code that appears in your coupon admin but on a product that it wasn't activated for
so if you had products x, y and z and you had a coupon code activated for x but tried to use it to buy z, it is this error message we get.

But as I said in this case the coupon code is for the correct products

if i use it on a correct product with no attributes (i.e no drop down menu on sales page) then I get the success message and on next page is the coupon code name and the applied discount.

if I use it on, again a correct product BUT that has attributes (i.e an obligatory choice/option from a drop down menu on sales page) then I get the message that says basically not available and to check coupon conditions (the original said something like that as my Spanish version say this and I would have translated it say something similar)
BUT even thou get failure message if you click to next page you will find the coupon code has actually been used and applied correctly

for now i have changed the error message to say something else so they will click onto next page and see it worked :)
Not ideal and i need to cure the error

all other conditions of the coupon codes work fine

and yes coupons are set up correctly and if they wasn't I wouldn't get this error me thinks

Thanks for any help or ideas

thanks ian

Ah right - coupon discount on products with price adjusting attributes. Hmm, would need to check that.

Hi Simon

some products on our store have NO attributes and coupon codes work fine

some products have attributes that as you say add extra onto the final price: and we get the error as described
some products have attributes that do not change the final price i.e just colour or design: and we also get the error as described

so it is any product that just has attributes (whether adding to the final price or not) causes the error

the guys from the hosting tech (its on a VPS) have tested coupon codes through the cart themselves and they get the same error and have said it isn't producing any errors in the VPS server logs, so they are sure it is a coding error not a server config issue.

but the strange thing to me is it does apply the discount code correctly just says it hasn't so it's only the message that appears that's wrong.

thanks Ian

If it's just the error message, then try here:
/includes/languages/english/modules/order_total/ot_coupon.php (or coupon_pw.php) as it'll depend on which module you're using. Just change the error message to say something like "You have redeemed your coupon."

There is an issue with setting up coupons and products with attributes though that will affect the totals - if you use a % discount on the coupon I don't think the total is calculated corrcetly (so youhave to use a fixed $ coupon discount.) This error still exists in the 6.4.x series.

Hi Simon

Yes as I said in an earlier post thats what i did immediately until I find the fix.

BUT because of what you said about the %
I did some extensive tests

1st
as you are aware of the problem in previous posts

if i use it on a correct product with no attributes (i.e no drop down menu on sales page) then I get the success message and on next page is the coupon code name and the applied discount.

if I use it on, again a correct product BUT that has attributes (i.e an obligatory choice/option from a drop down menu on sales page) then I get the message that says basically not available and to check coupon conditions (the original said something like that as my Spanish version say this and I would have translated it say something similar)
BUT even thou get failure message if you click to next page you will find the coupon code has actually been used and applied correctly

BUT if I make the coupon with the Coupon Sale Exclusion tick box ticked and use it on ones with attributes guess what the error above doesn't happen (of course on our site it shouldn't apply any discount in this case)

but if use this coupon on product without attributes then I get the error message but on next page no discount applied (which on our site is actually correct)
nearly the exact opposite to my first case. ho hum!

the % discount only gets applied to the product price without adding the attribute price in the case of products with paid attributes
the % discount only gets applied to the cheapest product if a client adds more than 1 product to the basket if all products are without attributes
the % discount gets applied to all products in a basket when more than 1 IF they all have attributes,
and of course if the attributes are paid only applies the % to the total price of all the products in the basket without regard to the extra price for the tributes.

I haven't checked what it does if the basket has a mixture of products with and without attributes :?:

wow is this code screwed, didn't cre loaded test this before they released it

and you say it isn't still fixed.

Has anybody fixed this yet

thanks Ian

Cre has bugs, no question. It's what you get with a branch of oscommerce that has MANY different features but a rickety codebase which doesn't separate core from addon very well. There are coders out there who can sort out the issues - this being the community forum, it's pretty unlikely you'll get a fix posted here in full.

I generally post these bugs to the tracker but - would you believe it - the tracker broke a month back and there's no working replacement as yet. Cre eh? Still, I work on different carts including magento and presta, plus oscommerce forks - they all have their issues.

yeah I am very aware of the MANY bugs, I have a list of them, that, although my son and I are not trained programmers, so far we have fixed many of them ourselves :) not to mention the original translation to Spanish, which was terrible, not only in the translation, but in that parts which were not translated at all, plus all the buttons etc that I've produced new graphics for in Spanish etc.
But it does its job and as you say has many features.

Just this bug or bugs seems to me so obvious that I am somewhat surprised that it wasn't picked up at first and still hasn't been fixed since. 8O

So for me this and the integration of my autoresponder service are the next big things for me to fix and add

I notice Simon, from your sig that you do this kind of work

To get you to quote for fixing it do I contact you via your website

Thanks ian

I do this kind of work BUT only upgrade old versions, not fix. I suspect the coupon issue won't just be limited to coupon functionality, but payment area as well and by the time you get into that, you may as well rewrite a large part of the cart. No thanks!

I'd recommend contacting Jason at creloadedexpert.com or checking one of the developers from the listings to the left in Developer Showcase.

Otherwise zencart has a more sturdy coupon handling scheme, however nowhere need the options (working or not) of Cre ... and that's the attraction, eh. The feature set.
