i have twitter and facebook buttons on my site so customers can "like" and "follow". half the time, one of these buttons will not load up ... i just get that artifact icon. is this an issue with the server hosting these images, or is there some other way i can make sure they load/speed up their load times?

Artifact icon? Needs a pic / url.

sorry, simon. im sure i am using incorrect terminology. what i mean was there is just the image placeholder, with no image inside of it. basically, the facebook "like" icon is not loading on my site...

nah, you're right - i've never heard of 'artifact icon' before. so if it's working only some of the time, are there certain pages that it always breaks on eg https:// pages? look for a pattern ... or is it purely random and only occurs maybe due to your internet connection ?

good question. i think my internet connection at home is good, but lemme try it out at my office tomorrow. i am thinking it is probably an issue with where the image is hosted ... i am using a link to an outside site for that icon.

Try to host images on your own server, so you can use relative path links, otherwise it just slows things down - also the link to an external site for an image would need to be https://
