We just tried an upgrade to 6.5 (Community Ed) from 6.4. Did the upgrade as per instructions. It brought over the database info but not the images associated with products, none of the templating etc. So the store is basically useless and pretty much needs to be built from the ground up again for all the products and how they are displayed. Not exactly what I expect in an upgrade process by any means.

Did something go wrong? Is this what I should have expected (if so I would have liked to see a warning about that)?

Is this what we should expect for future upgrades?

Any simple ways to fix it?

I can see there are very few replies in this forum but I sure hope the developers have something to say...

Would also point out you'd need to bring over any modifications from your old store too.

(Cre) Loaded have poor upgrade instructions with their software, and the most important things are assumed to be obvious. All you need to do is copy over the old template from /templates and the /images folder from your previous store and activate the template through Admin >> Design >> Template Manager.

Yeah, I get there are a lot of gaps and misstatements in the docs. I wish some of them would get filled in.

We were at 6.4.0 and went to 6.5. We were using a version of the cre63_ats template that we had modified and styled.

I would expect they do some mods on the templates in some upgrades. Does that change what we can and can't overwrite when we copy the template to the new store?

I figure we need to at least push up old template css and images folders along with the files in the top folder (footer.php, header.php, install.sql (?), main_page.tpl.php, stylesheet.css & template.php). But if those have been changed in any important ways (security, functionality) then I would guess I'd have to do it line by line with my changes rather than just do a copy and replace the newer version of the template.

Well, it depends on what you want to keep from the old store right. Use winmerge to compare and merge files. Images should be straightforward. Otherwise employ someone to do it - plenty of takers in the 'Developer Showcase' to the left, even been known to do this myself at times :)
