Loaded Commerce Community

This is just a port across from oscommerce of the contrib 'Country State Selector with Ajax' that should've been part of the cart wayback - even in the current 6.4.2 betas choosing countries and states is clunky. This is an attempt to address this (and why I'm callin it a 'fix.')

There's a short demo vid if you aren't sure what it does and the d/load contains instructions needed to get the mod working on the create_account page only. 3 file uploads, 5 file edits and you're done.

(If you're site is basically one big flash movie with 2 lines of html, then there's a good chance that this mod won't work out-of-the-box. Oh well.)

If you have to select the country first would it not be better to have that selection come first in the form instead of having to jump the state to select the country then go back up to select a state?

Sure, you could have the country field above the state field. Then you'd be jumping down to the state selector, so pretty much 50/50 outcome. Also, I usually set up addresses so it looks like the address label - not too many put state after country.

The other thing is to have a default country set, so in fact you don't have to select a country if your address is going to be the default country. As some retailers don't sell outside their country, or your main bunch of customers is from your own country (for most people this is the case), that's sweet.

This is a great mod - awesome - as usual.

How could a selector be used on this create_account page so that the user can select a geographical area that would reduce the list of countries on the countries drop down to just the countries that are in a particular region/area say:
Europe
Africa
Asia
etc

Perhaps using a 'Region' drop-down or radio buttons above the countries drop-down list.

I suppose you could sort the countries that way - but you're assuming that the customer knows which geographical region a country belongs to VS alphabetical order ... my money's on the alphabet ... some people have very little idea about regional groups and would just get annoyed having to check the entire sorted list.

You could argue that sorting countries using english isn't straightforward for customers from non-english countries who don't read english, and that would be true. However the majority of oscommerce/cre users I suspect only sell in there own country or 1 or 2 others at most.

Keep it simple = better results.
