Hi guys!

We are setting up a UK based (and selling to UK only) shop. We have a PayPal account ready but no card payment option. And we need this since not everyone understands how to do a checkout with paypal with card.

So.. we are totally new with this, and need to know if any of you have a not very expensive and good option to suggest to us?

It would be nice not to have to pay a programmer to set up a new module but somehow use one of the existing modules as well.

We are just starting out and don't have too much money to start with, so any helpful ideas would be just awesome. Hope you can help :))

I'd recommend Sagepay - < 1000 transactions / quarter, £20. Paypal charges based on total sales value per month, and can work out 3x + as much per month. All depends on number of sales and value.

Thank you! :) We have checked that out now.

By the way, is that like a "complete package"? I mean is there anything we need cept a normal bank account? (can it be a private bank account too?)

I emailed them but they said they have an unusual amount of emails now and it might take a while, so if you have any idea? :)

Also does it need to be added to cre or is there a special module for that you need to have done?

You'd need a merchant account number for accepting online payments, especially if you're mail order/telephone order too - talk to your bank.

Sagepay Form is the easiest way to get up n running: it accepts most major credit cards as well as Paypal.
You can modify the oscommerce sagepay form module: read more about that here.

Have a read through the Sagepay.co.uk site. It is a cheaper way for small businesses to get into accepting payments without getting hit by Paypal's high per monthly sales charges (which I think are < £1500/month sales = 3.4% plus 20p a transaction)

All depends on what your current business is up to re websales I suppose.

Hi there,

We offer one of the lowest priced payment gateways in the UK today with our EcomMerchant service. We are PCI Level 1 accredited and have no compromise on service or security despite our low charges. Our service works in conjunction with an Internet Merchant Account from Barclays, HSBC or Streamline (Natwest/RBS). We can apply to any of these banks on your behalf as we have direct contacts within their merchants services departments and can often get a lead processed quicker than if you approach directly.

How we compare to other Payment Gateways

EcomMerchant £10.00 - 300 - 10p/trans

Sagepay £20.00 - 333 - 10p/trans
Worldpay £19.95 - 350 - 28p/trans
Paypoint £20.00 - 350 - 15p/trans

For further details visit our website (click link in my signature) or drop me a PM.

Thanks,

Simon

Pardon my naivete, but how do you go about setting up a merchant account number? I realize that it's an account utilized for accepting debit/credit transactions, but I don't know where to start. So far, all I've done is accept cash (with printed receipt, of course) and checks (which have been implemented into my personal checking account).

Contact your bank - in fact contact several banks as some are pretty uncompetitive (and the process can take a while.) Have a read about merchant accounts here

Hi Simon,

EcomMerchant processes credit and debit cards via a pay page which is held on our secure server (pay page can be customised to look like a page on the merchants site). You can of course offer Paypal as an alternative via your website and would just need the Paypal payment module for CRE in order to do so.

Thanks,

Simon

Ok, so that's a 'no' then.
Thanks
